The bulldozers have come in and mown down lots inhabited by 8-week-old kittens and old, debilitated cats. One of the pictures you will see shows a mother cat searching for her kittens after a community garden was demolished without warning.

We do not understand how these cats can be viewed as pets one minute and disposable garbage at another less convenient time. There are many other cats left along the boardwalk that escaped, and now have no shelters. These cats are exposed to the bitter winds that come off the ocean and they will either freeze to death or die slowly of starvation.

Some of these cats managed to survive Hurricane Sandy – can they take much more? Water freezes before they can drink it and so does canned food; dry food gets blown away or trashed by those with no concern for their lives. Many of the residents in the area remember a time when there were rats along the Boardwalk; when the cats are gone prepare to welcome the rats back.

  • We are asking all rescue groups to help with these cats.

  • We are asking individual rescuers to help with these cats.

  • We are asking anyone with an empty basement or space to help with these cats.
